It's been two years since I last wrote an entry and nothing other than music has the capable ability of reviving the life of this blog :) I am currently obsessed with Lianne La Havas - English soul and folk singer. Completely smitten by her voice and songwriting. Have a listen to this 'Tease Me' and 'Empty' number from her debut album 'Is Your Love Big Enough?' and Happy Monday!

It's Monday and I'm back in Jakarta. Woke up early due to jet lagged, had a slice of baked banana bread from starbucks, did Pilates, showered and it is only noon. I'm a SPOON full of happy! Completely loving life and the people in it. Celebrating the day with the one and only Ms. Nina Simone. Thank you my <3

Oh Betty Betty Betty! For those of you who is unfamiliar with Betty Davis, you must get to know her. Davis wrote and produced all of her own songs in her 1973 self entitled album Betty Davis. She married Miles Davis in 1968 and introduced Miles to Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. Having influenced artists such as Missy Elliot, Macy Gray and Kelis, Davis telegraphed an ostentatious eroticism years ahead of its time with her ferocious energy, thigh high moon boots and brazenly belting out lyrics about her sexual prowess. Promising to rough you up, seduce you and leave you pleading with more. I'm listening to her 'Anti Love Song' number as I am picking out outfits and looks for tomorrow's shoot. Clara Magazine have asked to profile me for their 'to dress like' article. Betty Betty Betty... you're putting me in a rebellious mood. Hahaha!

Train is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1994. Their hit song, 'Hey Soul Sister', from the album Save Me, San Franscisco is not the only track that I have become attached to. I find the lyrics in 'Breakfast in Bed' blissful!

Breakfast In Bed
By Train

California, dancing in the ocean
How I love you, better with some lotion
Sun is always shining.
No one compares to you.

Sidney baby, young and like a flower
How I want you, give me just an hour.
You seem like an angel.
No one compares to you.

You're the best book I ever read.
You're the smartest thing I ever said.
You're breakfast in bed.

When in Norway you can do me more ways
Than any other you treat me like a mother loves her baby
Baby, do I do it for you?
Oh, 'cause all I ever wanted, baby, was baby to do it for you.

You're the best dream in my head.
You're my calm thought when I see red.
You're better than punk rock cred.

You're breakfast in bed.
You're breakfast in bed.
You're breakfast in bed.

Wanna please you, wanna Japanese you
How I need you, dress you up and feed you.
Love you like a daddy loves his baby, baby do it for me.

You're the fastest race I ever led.
You're the finest bride I'll ever wed.
You're the skin I never wanna shed.

You're breakfast in bed.
You're breakfast in bed.
You're breakfast in bed.

Morning get up courtesy of my Guamanian homey, Jay. Yesterday my childhood friend Patricia, one of the first female DJs in Indonesia, have asked me to style her profile photo shoot. I'm a stylist for the day! Making sure I've got everything packed and ready for the shoot while listening to this Passafire number. Heading to Bellagio to meet up with team DJ Patricia, from Spinach Records, in a few.

Rest In Peace Gil Scott-Heron... You were a poet, a singer, a true voice! May your music live on for generations to come. Your contributions to music will be missed and you will be remembered as the musical legend that you are.

Indonesian funkadelic rock band, AKA, was founded in May 1967 in Surabaya. The members of the group consist of Ucok Harahap (keyboard/main vocals), Syech Abidin (drums/vocals), Soenata Tanjung (main guitar/vocals), and Arthur Kaunang (bass). AKA stands for 'apotik kali asin' which literally translates to 'pharmacy of salty river' in English. A tad unusual for a band name but at least the weirdness meshes well with the identity of their music and interestingly the name derived from an actual pharmacy that Ucok's parents owned which is also a place where the band used to practice. AKA's sound was popular amongst young Indonesians of that era; a time where eccentric rock was considered taboo. This particular track was released in 1972 and I'm so psyched for this find. Why can't we produce and exhibit originality as we have in the past? Music needs to be rediscovered!

I am in love with Michael Grimm's voice and his rendition of Alicia Keys - Fallin'! This 2010 America's Got Talent winner brings back the soul in music with his raspy lusty bluesy, oh so sexy, sound.

A few days ago was the birthday of My Mowner a.k.a Janagifofanuiknowright ;) and today my little sister, Galuh, posted this song up on facebook. Couldn't have been more fitting as this track really hit the spot! My Mowner lives in San Francisco and even though I am torn by the distance that keeps us apart, writing this entry brings back a smile to my face and all of the sunshiny Cali memories.

      Dear Cali,

"You can try to hold me back. Build your damn walls,
pack sandbags along the edges and yell at the clouds
and the rain and the sky to stop.
But I will not relent. I will reach you. Because I am the sea.
And I will continue to love you no matter what."

V Magazine did an exclusive interview with the world's most unusual music phenom, Lady Gaga. Even though Gaga is not of every one's cup of tea, she is certainly not scared to strip her self naked to the public eye and she never fails to go beyond the limit of the highest outlandish entertainment. I give her props for her consistency. She is a true musician that sticks to her eccentric artistry. Photos taken by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

I'm feeling better than I did on Friday. Woke up to Adele's single from her new album titled 21. She never fails to magnetize me with her soul bluesy voice. I am still in bed under the covers as I see the sun shining outside my bedroom window. I hear the laughter filled with energy from the children arriving to the public school across the street from where I live and of course the sound of my sweet golden retriever, Angel, snoring. This makes me smile. Such a perfect way to start the day to. Good morning Monday!
